Follow on Google News | Adelphi Marks January as National Mentoring MonthStudents, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders will participate in the presentations on mentoring at Adelphi. Those discussing their experiences are psychology student Dezmond Imperia and his mentor, Brian Leander, along with neuroscience student Samantha Napoli and her mentor, Samantha Bassford. Leander is a manager in Human Resources while Bassford is a residence hall director. Both students are sophomores from Long Island. "These four exemplify what our mentoring program does at Adelphi," said Chotsani West, director of Student Mentoring in the Office of Academic Services and Retention. Approximately 45 students are paired with mentors at present. The program was created to help ensure academic success for students at any phase of their undergraduate career, ideally beginning their freshman year. Open to all students, it was designed particularly to serve students of color, LGBTQ+ students, veterans, and first-generation students. See more about the Mentoring Program at Adelphi. National Mentoring Month, inaugurated in 2002, is spearheaded by the Harvard School of Public Health, MENTOR: The National Mentoring Partnership, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
