Alten Construction also reconstructed damaged areas of the structural stone walls and repaired and replaced miscellaneous cracked and dislodged wall stones and a partially collapsed stone entry tower. The building still possesses many of its original fixtures, including most of the original shelves, fine pressed tin ceilings, staircase, woodwork and desks. The commercial construction company employed a qualified historic architectural consultant to monitor the work through the entire process. "This project is an example of federal and local governments working together with a contractor to successfully complete a historically significant project," said Mike Berger, the construction division manager for the City of Napa's Public Works Department. "Through the project team's diligence, hard work and concerted efforts, the project was completed on time and under budget." Located at 1219 First Street, the Goodman Library is the longest continuously operating library in California. It was added to the National Register of Historical Places on January 21, 1974.
