HOLLYWOOD, CA, UNITED STATES, August 21, 2017 / Punch TV Studios CEO Joseph Collins pays tribute to iconic Comedian Dick Gregory who was born in St. Louis, Missouri October 12, 1932 and departed this world August 19, 2017.

Dick Gregory began his career at the Playboy Club in Chicago, IL as a stand up comedian in the 1960s. He was given this opportunity by Hugh Hefner founder of Playboy Enterprises.  Gregory was also known for his push for Civil Rights for African Americans within his jokes during the Civil Right Era.

Dick Gregory was a man that God ordained to break racial barriers through the use of humor. Fans of all races loved his jokes. The fact that he was a black man became unimportant when he stood up on stage to tell his jokes. The people just wanted a good laugh and they became blind to his skin color. Dick Gregory gave the people what they wanted a lot of laughs.

Civil rights was always a top priority for Mr. Gregory because he told jokes and stories that echoed a message that promoted Civil Rights to all people. Mr. Gregory became a Civil Rights Activist in 1962, during a demonstration in Mississippi; a state rich with the vicious stings of racism and White supremacy. As Mr. Gregory became more involved with the Civil Rights Movement he decreased his club appearances and made his presence felt in the Civil Rights demonstrations in all regions of the country. People will always remember that he made them laugh, but we can never forget that he also made people think about the ignorance of racism in America.

Dick Gregory was a game changer for America and especially in the entertainment business.  If Mr. Gregory had not made sacrifices in the Civil Rights Movement Black owned companies such as Punch TV Studios would not have the opportunity to promote its vision to millions of Americans around the United States. Punch TV Studios is a media company that embraces the voices of all Americans and will always remember the iconic contributions of Mr. Dick Gregory. We send our condolences to the family of Dick Gregory and pray that God give his family peace in this difficult time.
