Secret Society Behind Attempt on Abraham Lincoln's Life Enriches Plot in New Pinkerton Novel

ST. LOUIS - March 22, 2017 - PRLog -- Most American history buffs know that John Wilkes Booth shot President Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theater in 1865; yet, few may know about the secret society said to have fostered Booth's attack, the Knights of the Golden Circle. Founded by Virginian George Bickley, the KGC was organized to defend the rights of the South. Its members hoped to bring about the annexation of a "golden circle" of territories in Mexico, which would create a new and separate slaveholding confederation. This "golden territory" would become the means of cementing the power of the South and liberating it from the North's interference forever. Believed to have members numbering in the thousands, the resources of the KGC were severely drained by the outbreak of the Civil War, thereby permanently hindering its cause. However, the efforts of its members or "knights", continued under different names and different leadership well into the early 1900s.

In recent years, movies like National Treasure 2 and the PBS Masterpiece Series, Mercy Street have hinted at the activities of The Knights of the Golden Circle in their plots. Recently, author Elizabeth A. Miller made this richly fascinating and still little known sect, the cornerstone of her latest novel, The Pink Traitor. Told in flashbacks from the winter of 1861 when the KGC was prepared to strike against its greatest enemy, Abraham Lincoln, The Pink Traitor is the third and final installment of Miller's Pinkerton Detective Series.

Based loosely on the lives of real female Pinkerton operatives active during the late 1800s, The Pinkerton Detective Series touches on the attempted assassination of Abraham Lincoln during the Baltimore Plot, the murder of President James Garfield, the hunt for Billy the Kid, and of course, the seditious activities of the KGC, all under the watchful "eye" of Detective Allan Pinkerton's most trusted agents.

Spies and sabotage, romance and intrigue, regret and revenge tie up the threads of an ongoing plot highlighted by historical details, throughout the three books of The Pinkerton Detective Series. A Pink Lady, Pink Revenge and The Pink Traitor are all currently available in e-book or paperback formats at the author's website http://www.emillerbooks.com or by visiting http://www.amazon.com and searching for the Pinkerton Detective Series.
