Introducing EMJ Dermatology 4.1

CHELMSFORD, U.K. - Nov. 15, 2016 - PRLog -- Hello and welcome to this year's EMJ Dermatology eJournal, updating the field with cutting-edge developments within dermatological practice. Approaching the closing weeks of 2016, this issue takes a retrospective approach to bring a wide-range of peer-reviewed primary research, synopses, advice, and expertise from renowned dermatologists as well as an expansive overview of the recent 25^th European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Congress, hosted in Vienna, Austria.

The renowned event also saw the return of plenary lectures, satellite symposia, role-play workshops, e-Poster presentations and 'Aesthetic Sunday'; an opportunity for on-site training and revisions for aesthetically-led professionals. Topics spanned from geriatric skin diseases and melanoma updates, to allergy and the role of immunity within the development of cutaneous conditions.

To complement the Congress coverage, this year's eJournal provides a selection of pre-eminent, high-quality research articles to direct the future practice of clinicians and researchers alike. Findings by Özlü and Karadağ explain the role of toll-like receptors and antimicrobial peptides in the aetiopathology of acne vulgaris, a piece selected this year as the prestigious Editor's Pick, while its potential alleviation by diet changes and oral supplementation is discussed by Szmurło and Kucharska. Alarming presentations within dermatology clinics internationally, Pozzo-Magaña and Lazo-Langner describe the development of acute drug-reaction-induced Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, stressing the lack of reliable efficacy data from current treatment options. Kormaz and Doyuk Kartal allude to the cutaneous manifestations related to brucellosis; Nath provides an all-encompassing review of the immunopathogenesis of leprosy; and Reginatto and Silva outline common neonatal presentations of the skin.
