Evan McMullin is an independent candidate running for President of the United States of America, running on a conservative platform. In recent weeks, McMullin has surged in Utah polls, even leading in some. As others have noticed, Evan McMullin has an unlikely yet possible path for winning the election as a result, and may no longer be considered merely a "spoiler."

Curtis Miller argues that for Republicans, Evan McMullin represents an alternative to Donald Trump, who finished third in Utah's Republican primary election and still is not well liked by Utah Republicans, while still having a plausible path to becoming President. He is also arguably better suited for the office than Donald Trump.

Democrats, on the other hand, are unlikely to support Evan McMullin's platform. However, Hillary Clinton is likely to finish third in Utah's election, putting her in the position of a third-party candidate in Utah. Since Evan McMullin's strongest path to winning the election is one that also makes Hillary Clinton more likely to win as well, Utah Democrats may help Clinton win nationally by voting for Evan McMullin.
