Developing the first sustainable village in Tamil Nadu

VILLUPURAM, India - Oct. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- TEDA (Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency) in collaboration with Auroville Consulting, is developing the first Solar Village in Tamil Nadu using a grid -connected Solar Photo Voltaic system. The pilot project in Irumbai village, will result in a business model that facilitates a partnership between local government bodies and private investors.

The goal of the project is to reduce the carbon footprint and build a sustainable village by generating energy from renewable sources, thus, ensuring an energy positive village with round the clock electricity supply.

From September 2nd to September 12th, 7 team members from Auroville Consulting, 7 women from the Auroville Village Action Group (AVAG), and 7 students from Auroville Institute of Technology (AIT) performed energy audits in 225 buildings in Irumbai village, located in Villupuram District of Tamil Nadu.

The purpose of the energy audit was to determine and implement energy efficiency measures, particularly for lighting appliances, fans, street lights and over-head tank pumps.
