Follow on Google News | St. Luke's UMC Hosts Community Performance "Ragtime: The Musical"By: St. Luke's UMC "The community's response to our recent concerts has been terrific," said Mark Squire, Director of Worship & the Arts at St. Luke's. "We are looking forward to expanding our repertoire with this musical theater production. The play, which is set in the early 1900's will take audience members back in time. The musical tells the tale of several personal portraits while also addressing many hot-button topics, which are still alive today including, immigration, racism and white privilege. "While this play is set at the turn of the century, all the topics discussed are incredibly relevant today," said director Bob Zehr. "In the end, it is a powerful show about hope." Ragtime is a Tony Award-winning musical. The talented cast includes members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church as well as members of the arts community in Indianapolis. Doug King is proud to be the choreographer of the production. Squire predicts, "This show will be a truly memorable experience and a fantastic opportunity to invite friends and neighbors to St. Luke's who may have never visited before. I think this highly entertaining show will also be a catalyst for meaningful conversation, as well as effective community work, in the months that follow." Tickets for the Friday (7:30 pm) and Saturday (4:00 pm) performances are available via the St. Luke's website (http://www.stlukesumc.org). Premiere tickets, which include reserved seating, are $50. General admission tickets are $20. St. Luke's is an open community of Christians, gathering to seek, celebrate, live and share the love of God for all creation.
