VOICES FOR LEONARD PELTIER

The Paul Winter Consort and Friends

"Voices for Leonard," is a musical offering, intended to awaken participation in the ground-swell of voices urging President Obama to grant clemency to Native American Leonard Peltier, who has been incarcerated in federal prison now for 41 years.

"All My Relations" is a 13-minute suite that begins with a recording of the Native American song "Witchi Tai To," and features Apache singer John-Carlos Perea. The voice of the wolf follows this, with the song "Wolf Eyes," that culminates with a chorus of 2,000 human voices in New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine, howling together "for a free Leonard Peltier." The goal is to put forth this music, along with the story of Leonard's plight, to the widest world audience possible, over these next three months.

A great inspiration for Paul Winter's vision for this project is the example of the 1970 album Songs of the Humpback Whale. The yearning beauty of the whales' voices touched the hearts of millions of people, allowing the unheard to be heard, and possibly doing more for the cause of the endangered whales than all the print and symposia and legal efforts put together (with all due respect to these latter endeavors). "My premise is that music can touch people more deeply, and stay longer in memory, than perhaps any other medium."

A presidential pardon of Leonard Peltier would be a symbolic act of atonement for the horrible history of our government's genocide against the Indians, over the centuries.

50% of proceeds will be sent to the organizations working for Leonard's freedom. 50% will go to Paul Winter's non-profit organization, Music for the Earth, LLC to cover production costs for this EP.
