Two Canadian Boxers Successful In Their Pro Debut Matches
Canadians, Bradley Hamil and Robert Thomas, along with their coaches, Derek Lacey and Syd Vanderpool, came away with two big wins on the night.
Robert James Thomas of Canada faced Antaun Taylor who is the son of former WBA Heavyweight Champion Tony "TNT" Tubbs in the first match of the night. Thomas show good poise and heavy hands that doubled his opponent up on the ropes without answer. Referee Chris Riskus stepped in and called halt to the contest during the second round for the TKO victory. The official time of the stoppage was 1:31 of the second round. When asked how he felt after the match Robert said, "I felt great in my first pro boxing fight. Happy to get the win. I really established my jab early and cut off the ring while walking my opponent down. After I got the feel for my opponent I started letting my hands go and got the stoppage early in the 2nd rd. I had a great training camp and was prepared for everything so nothing surprised me while I was in the ring."
Bradley Hamil was one of 7 bouts on the card, and faced Idris Wasi of Sacremento, California. This scheduled 4 round heavyweight bout was halted at the end of the second round at the advice of Wasi's corner. Bradley "B-Smooth" Hamil was awarded the TKO victory. After the win we asked Bradley how he felt in his first pro fight. "I felt really prepared thanks to my coaches, it was a great training camp. I followed the instructions from my corner to keep on the stick (jab) and work behind it. Nothing the guy did surprised me. I was in great shape and came ready to fight and get the victory."
After a quick reprieve the fighters will be back in the gym to continue their training with former world ranked #1 boxer Syd Vanderpool at the SydFit Health Centre, to prepare for their next appearance in the ring.
