New Zoned Safety Approach Reduces Complexity for Functional Safety of Machinery

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - June 23, 2016 - PRLog -- ASCO engineers have developed a simplified approach to pneumatic machine safety - and the details are outlined in a new white paper available from ASCO.

Called Zoned Safety, the new approach is much easier to implement and use than traditional methods of pneumatic safety. It enables the integration of safety functionality within a pneumatic valve manifold. Zoned Safety is strongly recommended for any pneumatically controlled production equipment requiring Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and ISO 13849-1 compliance.

Zoned Safety both greatly simplifies safety circuit design and reduces the number of system components. Constructed from the proven ASCO 500 Series valve and G3 fieldbus electronics platform, the Zoned Safety approach permits the integration of up to three electro-pneumatic safety zones in one manifold assembly. Each zone allows for independent control and can safely disable air and power to the zone's pneumatic equipment.
