Family of deceased man, Tyson Cook, unites with non-profit and other families to put a face on a rare disease

WOODSTOCK, Ill. - June 15, 2016 - PRLog -- The Hashimoto's Encephalopathy SREAT Alliance (HESA) has joined with the family of Tyson Cook, and other families to raise crucial awareness of a potentially deadly disease.

Twenty-four year-old Tyson Cook was found dead on May 27th of a gunshot wound only days after the birth of his second child, also leaving behind a 2 year-old son and a young wife. The family released a statement shortly thereafter sharing that Tyson was diagnosed with Hashimoto's encephalopathy (HE) and was subsequently treated as an inpatient with high-dose Prednisone. The family believes that the condition ultimately lead to Tyson's tragic death.

Hashimoto's encephalopathy (HE) is an uncommon medical condition in which it is believed a person's immune system attacks the brain. This disrupts the function of the brain and nervous system, causing a variety of cognitive, neurological, and / or neuropsychiatric symptoms. There is no clear estimate of how many people are affected by this condition. The condition is often misdiagnosed, which can delay treatment and further endanger patient lives. The disease strikes people of all ages.

Families like the Cooks have recently reached out to HESA to share the stories of their loved ones and their battle with this debilitating condition. The non-profit is taking to social media to share the stories of Tyson Cook, Hadley Fults, Haleigh McKee, and young Tharrin. HESA is encouraging social media users to share these stories and photos using the hashtags #TysonCook, #HoldingHadley, #HaleighMcKee, and #Tharrin.

The non-profit is currently working on releasing the second edition of its groundbreaking book, "Understanding Hashimoto's Encephalopathy," featuring over 30 personal stories as well as interviews with the World's leading specialists on this condition. HESA hopes that the release of the second book will help to prevent tragedies like that of the Cook family and by sharing the struggles of children like Hadley, Haleigh, and Tharrin with a wider audience to expedite faster diagnosis, better treatment, and overall awareness.

You can find out more about Tyson Cook on the families Facebook page, "Memories of Tyson Cook" where visitors can find details on how they can help Tyson's widow, Cami, with expenses.

The public can find out more about Hadley, Haleigh, and Tharrin by visiting the HESA - Hashimoto's Encephaloapthy SREAT Alliance Facebook [https://www.facebook.com/HashimotosEncephalopathyResources/] fan page.
