Event Synopsis: On December 4, 2015, the Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Advisers Relief Act was signed into law. The Relief Act amends three registration provisions of the Investment Adviser Act of 1940 (the Advisers Act) that will affect advisers to SBICs. The Act will provide relief to SBIC fund advisers who are still registered with or still reporting to SEC despite the SBIC Fund Adviser Exemption under The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010. Through the Advisers Act, SBIC advisers no longer need to register with state securities regulators.
