Official Launch of sciNote - Free Open Source ELN - at Experimental Biology 2016
By: BioSistemika LLC
sciNote has been released in February after the successful Kickstarter campaign. Since then it gets a double digit number of subscribers each day. Klemen Zupancic, PhD in Biomedicine and Business Development Executive at BioSistemika LLC, explains that they have been getting very positive and useful feedback from their subscribers. »New features and improvements are already being implemented. We believe sciNote should be very flexible so it can be useful for different types of laboratories and different fields of research« added Zupancic.
sciNote has a user-friendly interface for managing laboratory work and is safe for storing all scientific data. It runs on a secure server in the cloud but can also be installed locally. There is no limitation for the number of users, therefore it is suitable for laboratories of any size. Everything you change in sciNote is time stamped and all the data is archived and can be retrieved at any time.
sciNote organizes your work in projects and has intuitive features which you already use daily, such as assigning people to the project, adding tags and setting due dates. Each project has tabs, where you can see the latest notifications, activities and comments from other project members. In sciNote you can upload any type of files and create custom reports which you can download in PDF format.
A unique feature that distinguishes sciNote from other ELN software on the market is workflow view of experiments which helps you understand how the experiments are related to each other.
Modularity is what makes sciNote flexible and useful for every laboratory. Modules can be simple, such as reagent calculator or complex, such as bioinformatics modules. They are either developed by the sciNote team or by the open source community, so there will be an ever-growing selection of modules to choose from. sciNote can also be connected with your existing databases, laboratory instruments and software that you use in your everyday laboratory routine.
Klemen Zupancic concluded: »We wanted to make sciNote available to everyone. That is why we have decided to distribute sciNote under an open source license and offered a free cloud account to the users. This is a very unique business model in this field. Our vision is to transform sciNote into the best scientific platform there is«.
