CHEADLE, U.K. - March 29, 2016 - PRLog -- The Mayor and Mayoress of Stockport, Councillor Andrew Verdeille and Mrs Cleo Cundall officially opened the new £250,000 Cheadle Hulme-based HQ for long established children's charity Action for Sick Children at a well-attended launch ceremony.

After a tour of the new development, the Mayor and Mayoress cut a ribbon to mark the official opening of the new headquarters and Councillor Verdeille expressed his delight at the charity's decision to relocate to Cheadle Hulme

"Action for Sick Children is an important charity that has done some ground-breaking work in its long history and I welcome its arrival here," said Councillor Verdeille. "It is currently working on some exciting new children's health initiatives and I'm sure it will attract support from the residents of Cheshire."

Politicians, including Cheadle Hulme Conservative MP Mary Robinson, senior members of the medical profession, supporters and volunteers who attended the day-long event at Ravenoak Road were welcomed by Action for Sick Children's Chief Executive Val Jackson.

Miss Jackson, who revealed that the charity's relocation from High Lane, Stockport to its new Cheadle Hulme base, was part of her five year plan to expand the charity into the 21st Century, then welcomed all to the official opening event.

She said the move to a new headquarters presented an opportunity for the charity to build its visibility to the levels that it enjoyed when it first started its work more than 50 years ago.

"Back in the 1960s Action for Sick Children was a well known name," explained Miss Jackson. "Our work was high-profile and our brand carried some valuable credibility. We were here to offer help and support for all sick children, their parents and carers; we worked hard to improve their lot.

"Winning the right for parents to stay with their hospitalised children overnight was a key Action for Sick Children achievement, a victory that is still valued and appreciated by both parents and children today. My aim is to build on our past achievements by helping sick children and their families to tackle the problems that currently face them in this modern fast-moving world.

"One of our latest initiatives, the Dental Playbox, a scheme which uses fun and games, including puppets and songs, to help youngsters learn the basics of caring for the health of their teeth, is proving very popular.  In fact we ran Dental Playbox sessions during the opening event to give visitors a chance to see it in action for themselves.

"More importantly we are now getting reports that this initiative is proving to be an effective tool in enabling children to care for their own teeth properly and healthily. This is wonderful news from my point of view because Dental Playbox is a perfect example of the Action for Sick Children philosophy - helping children to improve their health."

Miss Jackson believes that Action for Sick Children's new home will enable the charity to significantly build its visibility and become the powerful force it once was. By attracting new trustees and new volunteers it can increase its range of support activities and deliver the relevant help and advice to those who require it.

"For me, our new head office illustrates the launch of a bigger, brighter Action for Sick Children which will continue to liaise with and support sick children, their parents and carers," said Miss Jackson.

"I believe we can and will increase this charity's visibility, attract new supporters and make a real difference to the lives of sick children and their families."
