NEW YORK - March 7, 2016 - PRLog -- As we narrow down the presidential nominees on both sides of the party lines, Asset TV’s Courtney Woodworth joined Stephen Guilfoyle, Managing Director NYSE Floor Operations, at the New York Stock Exchange to talk about the affect this year’s presidential candidates might have on the market.

According to Stephen Guilfoyle, the reaction of the market to either a Clinton or Trump presidency would be fairly even.  The two front-running candidates are both people that insiders feel comfortable with, whereas Sanders’ stance on the financial industry and the unfamiliarity of the other republican candidates may bring with them a bit of uncertainty which could translate over into the market.  As Stephen puts it succinctly, “I think as long as what we kind of already know is cemented, I don’t think you’ll see a shock on Wall Street.”

Coinciding with last week’s Super Tuesday, the market saw large flows into equity funds, a 40-point rally in the S&P 500 and a 300-point jump in the Dow.  While Stephen doesn’t think there is necessarily a correlation to the presidential race, it certainly bodes well heading into March.  Commenting on this recent economic upturn, Stephen states that the market is seeing better macro with construction spending going up 1.5% month over month.  This, along with banks and tech stocks going up as well, leads Stephen to speculate that another Fed rate hike is likely to happen sometime between April and June of this year.

However, while the US market is currently seeing better days, the same can’t be said globally.   With negative interest rate policies in Japan and Europe, it’s hard not to be concerned about the affect it may have locally.  However, Stephen states that although it’s certainly something to be concerned about, he doesn’t believe it’s likely to happen here in the US.
