Follow on Google News | SCPA Presents Anxiety Disorder in Kids Workshop on April 1, 2016Anxiety in children is a critical issue. Child Psychologist, Dr. Deena Abbey, will discuss some causes of anxiety in young children and strategies that professionals can use to help them work through their anxiety.
At the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will: be able to identify how anxiety manifests in young children; • demonstrate a familiarity with co-morbid conditions that may occur with anxiety; • have developed an ability to talk with families about anxiety in their children; • be able to identify some strategies to help young children and their families cope with their anxiety. ABOUT THE PRESENTER Deena Abbe, PhD, is recognized as a leading clinical psychologist specializing in infants and children. Her areas of expertise include ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Autism, Social Phobias, and Aggression. Dr. Abbe has served as a school psychologist for the Northport School District School on Long Island. She is currently affiliated with O’Connell, Selig and Associates, Island Therapies, and other Long Island early intervention agencies. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Abbe has assessed children for services both within and outside of the district for the Committee on Preschool Education and Suffolk and Nassau County Early Intervention. Other responsibilities include supervising special education professionals, consulting to parents and teachers in the origination and implementation of behavioral intervention plans, IFSP Plans, IEPs, and administering and interpreting full evaluations for children between the ages of one and thirteen who suffer from various developmental disabilities. She has served as a panelist at notable events including topics on Women in Psychology, Behavioral Concerns in Early and Middle Childhood, and Early Childhood Behaviors. Dr. Abbe maintains affiliations with the Association for Behavior and Cognitive Therapy, the American Psychological Association, the New York State Psychology Association where she was co-founder of the CBT division and is a current Council Representative of that division.
