The majority of UK workers admit to using personal email at work

ROYSTON, U.K. - Jan. 26, 2016 - PRLog -- With the recent ruling from the European Court of Human Rights that an employer did not breach the privacy rights of an employee when they monitored his messenger account, and subsequently fired him, is it surprising that most people do send personal emails from work?

According to our poll 45 percent said they do regularly send personal emails from work which would suggest that it's not considered to be taboo in the workplace. In contrast, only 22 percent of our survey said they have never used their personal email whilst at work.

Of the other respondents, 14 percent said they accessed their non work emails very occasionally, defined as once a month, and 19 percent owned up to using it once a week. This ruling potentially affects over three quarters of the workforce that took part in the CVbrowser survey to find out peoples attitude to using personal emails at work.

The survey did not ask if they accessed their email on their employer's hardware or on a personal device such as a phone but would this have made a difference to either the European's court ruling or the results of the poll? Further investigation on this subject would be necessary to ascertain employees' behaviour but with the majority of responders admitting to a potentially job ending offence it certainly highlights a grey area in company policy and employment law.

This survey was conducted by CVbrowser (http://www.cvbrowser.com/) from the 19 - 25 of January 2016 and was answered by 270 people.
