Thinking of Adding or Hiring a Drone for Your Business?

The uses for UAV/UAS or "drones" to increase efficiency, lower cost, and increase safety are endless. According to the AUVSI there could be an economic impact of more than 70,000 jobs and 82.1 billion to 2025.

SYKESVILLE, Md. - Jan. 25, 2016 - PRLog -- Whether you are thinking of adding a Drone as a tool to expand the services your existing operation provides or using/hiring a Drone to benefit your current operation, there are endless risk exposures.  A Drone losing its signal with its remote ground station and falling onto a major highway?  A Drone inspecting an advanced peice of infrastructure like an oil refinery or cell tower and damaging its working parts, requiring it to be shut down for repair.  A Drone interfering with a commercial airliner filled with passengers?  Imagine the possibilities.

The thought of using UAV/UAS's commonly referred to as Drones in commercial industry to add efficiencies and safety is a highly attractive proposition. Just to scratch the surface they range from public safety in monitoring the possibilities of natural disasters to search and rescue.  Natural resource industries that operate on a large scale like mining and agriculture can gain extreme efficiencies in time management and output.

Companies from one man operations to multi-national corporations are experimenting with this technology to see how it can better their operations. However, current regulations to flight presents an obstacle to the testing and/or usage that companies want to perform.

Currently, the FAA regulations can be prohibitive to the average individual looking to provide these services.  There appears to be some relaxed regulation on the horizon.  While these relaxed rules are not in effect today, it appears to be moving in that direction.  An alternative might be hiring in a service to provide drone service.  However, in the event of a claim, your business could be involved in a suit as well.

With all the confusion about creating a legally compliant operation, the next question moves to the area of insurance.  We have numerous insurance carriers with differing requirements for coverage.  As stated above, the exposures for risk are endless.  Will it have a mission failure and fall out of the sky and injure someone?  Could I interfere with a manned aircraft causing it to crash?  Could I invade someones privacy or violate a copyright with video that I shoot?  These are all valid questions. Typical General Liability will exclude aviation.  Many operators are now reporting that they are required to provide Certificates of Insurances to secure work.  They are becoming savy that an Aviation coverage must be documented and not standard General Liability.  Don't be left without coverage when you unknowingly provided your General Liability coverage that excludes flying! Now what to do? Visit http://www.droneinsurancepro.com as we have been covering drones and identified the best carriers to write the aviation portion of this risk for Unmanned Aircraft commercial coverage. We can provide liability coverage as a result from the UAS, as well as, physical damage coverage that occured to the UAS.  There are even carriers writing protection for invasion of privacy.  You do not want to have your UAS in the sky without coverage!
