DETROIT - Jan. 11, 2016 - PRLog -- October 2015, the book “Cocaine Shadows”burst on the scene to a record setting reception.  Now both a “Critic’s Pick” on Amazon.com and getting great reviews, it should come as no surprise the CD is expected to receive the same greeting.  Author Roscoe Copeland originally had not planned on making a CD.  However after writing his book, the lyrics and sounds left circulating in his head had to go somewhere.  Copeland (musically known as “Soul Child”), being a product of the “Love Making” hits era of the 70’s and 80’s knew just how he wanted to lay his vocals down.  We all know hip-hop or (rap) is known as a stylized rhythmic sound that commonly accompanies a recurring and rhyming speech (it may even seem like chanting).  Yet, Soul Child’s interpretation of “Hip Hop” is a soulful diversity of deeply emotional expressions mixed with truth and love.  Soul Child says, I wanted to give listeners a lyrical tour of the book . . . fill in the gaps.”  He continues, “Although my book gives an explicit glance at the pressures, conditions and surroundings of growing up in an urban area of Michigan, just like in ‘Real Life’  . . . many times it is the music that helps us make it through.”  Soul Child goes on to say, “Everything I've done, was always to be a ray of hope for my neighborhood and my city.  I wanted to let kids know . . . no matter where you come from or your upbringing, nor whether you had a crackhead in the home or if you was homeless (and went days without eating), that does not define who you are, neither determine where you'll end up.”  He concludes, “My music may seem dark because it goes into places that musically are seldom tapped into.   In my music I don’t glorify the ‘Street Life’ (even though I lived it).  I talk about what people feel, instead of what people see.   I talk about the lost souls, the pain.  Be ready for an incredible experience prone to make you cry.   But it will also make you want more out of life and not just you, but for everyone around you.  When one person in an urban community wins . . . we all win.  On the same token, when we lose one . . . we all lose!”
