Local author, James L. MacLeod, will be available to sign copies of book During World War II, the city of Evansville manufactured vast amounts of armaments that were vital to the Allied victory. The Evansville Ordnance Plant made 96 percent of all .45-caliber ammunition used in the war, while the Republic Aviation Plant produced more than 6,500 P-47 Thunderbolts— Highlights from Evansville in World War II: • Covers the LST Shipyard, the P-47 plant, Evansville Ordnance, Sunbeam, Servel and many other familiar places. • Includes a discussion of how the city managed to accommodate the thousands of people who flooded the town. • Looks at the 459 local men who died in the war, including the 33 men from Evansville College.
