| Engineering 'A Team' Keeps Rail Network MovingBy: Route One Highways As part of the Network Rail framework the link-up between railway engineering specialists, Route One, AMCO and Carver Engineering Services, saw Route One lead an essential maintenance strategy of waterproofing the bridge over day and night shifts totalling five days. Completed in record time Route One removed the 80 tonne bridge deck for preparation in situ at the Carvers factory in Doncaster, which was then tested before installing the seamless bridge deck waterproofing membrane. Once installed back at site, Route One completed additional waterproofing works by installing Sterling Lloyd Hytec flexible loose laid polypropylene sheet membrane and a layer of Geo 1000 protective matting – a non-woven, polypropylene geotextile which is used to prevent damage to the membrane from ballast application. Darryl Taylor, Commercial Manager at Route One Highways says: “We are very happy to be chosen for this contract. Early contractor involvement meant that the possession times were reduced as we worked in partnership with Carvers and AMCO. We have since been awarded further work throughout Yorkshire fulfilling the Network Rail framework to repair and refurbish bridge structures to avoid inconvenient line closures.” Route One Highways is a privately held company based in Featherstone, West Yorkshire and provides quality structures and highway maintenance services across the UK.
