Pine Lodge Dolomites forges a collaboration with world-renowned Italian artists to create a fu

VAL GARDENA, Italy - July 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Pine Lodge Dolomites in Selva Gardena, in the heart of the Italian Dolomites, is a space that celebrates both art and beauty. With its own private concierge, personal chef, butler and housekeeper, this four-bedroom luxury lodge, open for its first summer season, offers guests the services of a luxury boutique hotel with all the comforts and privacy of a home.  More unusually however, guests get to stay in their very own semi-permanent art gallery.

The owners, Susanna Scott, a British interior designer, and her Italian husband, Georg Planker, a successful hotelier, both share a passion for art and are collaborating with several renowned artists from the region of Val Gardena, including the artists’ Aron Demetz and Gehard Demetz (not related to Aron). The artists’ works form part of the Lodge’s interior, with pieces strategically placed to enhance the surroundings. The exhibits are all for sale, effectively making Pine Lodge Dolomites a constantly evolving exhibition space as well as a beautiful place to stay; the exhibits change from season to season.

Aron Demetz and Gehard Demetz have both garnered international success throughout their careers, and have all been greatly influenced by the region’s traditions of wood-carving and craftsmanship dating back to the 17^th century.

Both Aron Demetz and Gehard Demetz have a close personal connection with Susanna and Georg.  It was Aron Demetz who first suggested the idea of exhibiting some of his works when he heard about Susanna and Georg’s vision for Pine Lodge Dolomites, and their desire to create a new standard of luxury in Val Gardena. Other artists then joined the project and there are ambitious plans now to expand what effectively started as an organic project borne of a mutual passion, to incorporate the work of other established artists, as well as emerging talents from the region.

The artists all differ in their genre; Aron Demetz is a figurative wood sculptor, whilst Gehard Demetz is a contemporary wood carver.  Another featured artist, Christian Stl specializes in painting portraits. Despite their different styles, their work fits well together and it is the combination of all the artworks on display that really gives Pine Lodge it’s unique aesthetic.

The artists have all enjoyed considerable international success in their respective careers.  Most notably, Aron Demetz has exhibited in several well–known galleries, including the prestigious Shanghai Art Museum as well as in Germany, Austria and Italy with the prestigious Biennale in Venice in 2009. In London, Aron continues to work with the Gazelli Art House in Dover Street, Mayfair.  He is considered to be one of the most innovative and adventurous wood sculptors of his generation. He often goes beyond well-worn traditions in terms of medium and content-iconography, and is particularly regarded for his preoccupation with humanity’s closeness to nature.

Since his debut in 2005, Gehard Demetz has been invited to exhibit at the distinguished Jack Shainman Gallery in New York, as well as museums and galleries in Spain, Germany and Korea just to mention a few. He has also been commissioned to create monumental sculptors for collectors from around the world. Gehard is admired for his ability to combine his incredible craftsmanship with subject matter that is new and appealing to contemporary viewers. His sculptures are admired for their juxtaposition of finely-polished parts alongside rough and sketchy surfaces; this particular construction and treatment render his sculptures absolutely unique in the domain of contemporary wood sculpture.

Pine Lodge will also be exhibiting the work of local artist Sara Welponer this summer.  Sara originally trained in cartoon illustration and has had several illustrated books published.   In 1997 she did the illustrations for the ‘Ice Man’ ötzi for the archeological museum in South Tirol, and has worked with various museums in Italy and in Germany. In recent years, Sara has channeled her energy into drawing and painting, her main source of inspiration coming from internal emotions and nature.
