Dr. Day Care opens location in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - June 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Dr. Day Care Learning Center, a provider of child care across Rhode Island, has recently acquired the Nickerson Community Center Child Care.  Located in the Olneyville section of the city, Dr. Day Care Providence is now the company’s sixth location, located at 133 Delaine St.  Prior to this acquisition, Dr. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith, CEO and President of Dr. Day Care, has been working as consultant for the child care center.

By consulting for the Nickerson Child Care Center over the past year, the Dr. Day Care staff has had numerous opportunities to support the families, staff, and children through this transition.  “It has been such a rewarding experience, being a consultant for Nickerson Child Care Center.  We feel honored to be able to continue the great work Nickerson has started and will make sure each child’s educational foundation is strong,” says Dr. Shallcross Smith.

Nickerson Community Center was founded in 1884, operating as a community program to support social services programs for the neighborhood.  Existing community services will be continued by the YWCA of Rhode Island.  The YWCA will also continue the school year program and summer programs. Both Dr. Day Care and the YWCA are state licensed and nationally accredited.

Dr. Day Care Providence serves children ages 6 months to 5 years and operates year-round from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m, weekdays.  Students will benefit from a unique curriculum that is based on the latest research on how children learn and develop early literacy, math, comprehension, physical, and social skills. Their administrators and educators create nurturing and secure learning environments where children are eager to learn in a way that's natural and fun for them.  Tuition includes breakfast, lunch, and snack.  Specialized enrichment programs (Cooking, Gardening, Art, Foreign Language, Science, Sport / Physical Activity) are also offered to children enrolled at Dr. Day Care Learning Center.

With over 40 years of experience, Nationally Accredited programs, and caring staff, Dr. Day Care provides an optimal environment for children to learn and grow.  Dr. Day Care Learning Center was founded by Dr. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith (known as “Dr. Day Care” to most).  Each center utilizes the Teaching Strategies Creative Curriculum, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, and is aligned to the Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards (RIELDS).  Their mission is to provide family, youth and child services in a safe, structured, and nurturing environment through a team of dedicated professionals.
