Kids Klub Thanksgiving card contest winner announced

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Dec. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- The Dr. Day Care Family recently held a contest for students in its’ School Age program. All students Kindergarten through 12 years old were invited to participate by submitting a drawing that illustrates “what Thanksgiving means to me.”  There were 181 drawings submitted from the Kids Klub and Dr. Day Care Learning Center for this year’s 24^th annual contest.

After a week of voting, 10 year old Jahrell David’s drawing was chosen for the holiday card.

Jahrell attends the McGuire Kids Klub and is a student in Mrs. Tiernan’s 5th-grade class at James L. McGuire Elementary School in North Providence, RI.  His school principal is Thomas G. Meagher.  According to Jahrell, he enjoys watching TV and playing with his ninja turtles.  He also enjoys playing with his friends. When he grows up, Jahrell wants to be a cartoonist. His favorite color is green.  His mom and dad, Celeste Grant and Antwan David, must be very proud. Great job Jahrell, and thank you for the beautiful artwork!

The Annual Holiday Card Contest was started in 1990 by CEO and President, Dr. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith.  Creating a Thanksgiving card has become a fun tradition for the Dr. Day Cay Family staff and students.  According to Mary Ann (who also goes by the moniker “Dr. Day Care”), this contest “is a great way to engage students in a holiday that celebrates being thankful.”

Kids Klub and Dr. Day Care curriculum focuses on families and celebrating cultural awareness during the month of November, so this card is another great way to involve students in the meaning of the holiday.  Alicia Gloria, the Kids Klub Enrichment and Curriculum Coordinator, enjoys helping the students create their artwork because “it gives the kids an opportunity to showcase how they feel about the holiday and generate excitement, as the cards are distributed to so many families.”

These cards are distributed across Rhode Island to families, staff, and interested parties.  This year, the Thanksgiving cards were sent to over 2,600 homes.  If you are interested in receiving next year’s card, please contact Rebecca at info@kidsklubri.com.
