MEDFIELD, Mass. - March 17, 2015 - PRLog -- Whether you're planning on selling your home quickly or just trying to make it a better living space for you and your family, there are many inexpensive, and easy ways to do so. Instead of breaking the bank to improve your home, you may want to consider simpler projects that can be done in just a weekend. Here are some quick fixes when it comes to increasing your home's value and charm.

Paint

The color of a house (inside and out) can really break or make a home, as it's typically the first thing that people see. Start with your front door, and work your way through your home to see if anything needs touching up or if any rooms need to be completely repainted. A fresh coat of paint can change the feel of any room, and you can also get creative while in the process. Do some research on effective color schemes and the best colors for certain rooms to get the most bang for your buck.

Fixtures

You can have the most lovely bathroom and kitchen area, but if the fixtures are outdated, they can stand out and even look awkward. From doorknobs and cabinet handles to the faucets in a main bathroom, fixtures need to match their surroundings to really make a room complete. Most fixtures are relatively inexpensive and can be installed quickly and easily. Even if you have a beautiful fixture already that is covered in dirt and grime, a quick clean and polish can bring it back to life.

Lighting

Nothing is worse than a dimly lit room that makes everything in it appear cold and dreary. Replacing outdated lighting can leave a room appearing brighter, more open, and more welcoming. If you have a dining room, try finding a central light fixture to hang over the dining room table that is interesting yet tasteful. Avoid tacky fixtures that draw too much attention away from a room, and try switching out old bulbs for energy efficient lights.

Kitchens and Bathrooms

When people are in a home, they always seem to pay extra attention to the kitchen and bathrooms. An updated kitchen and bathroom are probably the most important when it comes to improving your home. As the kitchen is generally the heart of the home, it pays off to spend a little more time and energy improving it. You can easily improve a kitchen by adding some splashes of color, replacing fixtures, adding some wall art, or even getting some indoor plants. When it comes to the bathroom, something as simple as getting a new shower curtain or painting the ceiling can do wonders. The main improvement in both of these areas however, is clearing away any clutter and cleaning any dingy or dirty areas, as they should appear to be the cleanest parts of your home.

So, don't rush to hire a contractor just to spruce up your home a bit; you can actually do a lot of improvements yourself when it comes to increasing the value of your home. If you're feeling like your home needs a makeover after years of the same look, or if you're in a rush to make a home sale, remember these quick and easy tips.
