“Learning How to Learn” with Barbara Oakley, Ph.D., at Adelphi University

 
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - March 12, 2015 - PRLog -- GARDEN CITY, NY, March 2015—Dr. Barbara Oakley, professor of engineering at Oakland University in Michigan, will give a lecture entitled “Learning How to Learn” at Adelphi University on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom in the Ruth S. Harley University Center at 1 South Ave, Garden City, NY. This lecture is the third annual lecture in the Ruth S. Ammon Endowed Lecture in Education series. It is free and open to the public.

Prior to becoming a professor of engineering, Dr. Oakley had a wide range of work experiences, from serving as a Russian translator with the U.S. Army to operating radio systems at the South Pole. She has published numerous books; her most recent is called A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra) and became a New York Times bestseller.

Dr. Oakley is one of two instructors of the world’s largest open online learning course, called Learning How to Learn, through the University of California, San Diego. The self-paced course provides students with practical techniques to help in test-taking, memorization and avoiding procrastination. It draws from multiple disciplines to provide a cohesive view of how the brain learns.
