How Soup Can Help Someone with Cystic Fibrosis?

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - Feb. 20, 2015 - PRLog -- What started out as just a fun idea five years ago has turned into one of Central PA’s largest events of its kind! The 5^th Annual Soup Cook Off for Cystic Fibrosis is an amazingly fun event that has raised over $9,500 for the cause over the last five years!

The Soup Cook Off will take place March 1^st, 2015, from 12-3PM, at the Park Inn West in Mechanicsburg, PA. Proceeds from the event benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Central Pennsylvania. For only $10 online, or $15 at the door, attendees can come and taste over 50 soups prepared by both Professional and Amateur Chefs. Last year this event saw over 400 people with over 40 Chefs. This year we expect over 500 people and even more Chefs.

What makes this event so unique? This Soup Cook Off does not just focus on one style like a Chili Cook Off. Here you can taste or enter Chowder, Chili, Bisque, Soup or Stew!  Another unique aspect of this event is that there is no judge’s panel. That’s right, you the soup taster picks the winners, not a panel of judges! “I always enjoy all the positive feedback that we get, from those tasting the soups, to the Chef’s that make the soups” says Gwen Forlizzi, event director, “It is a very fun event and we look forward to it every year!” You don’t have to take Gwen’s word for it, a quick visit to the website and you will see the testimonials.

About The Soup Cook Off
The Soup Cook Off was started 5 years ago by Gwen Forlizzi. This event is the largest Soup Cook off in Central PA! It is held on the 1st weekend in March at the Park Inn Hotel in Mechanicsburg, PA. The Soup Cook Off features soups from both the Professional and Amateur Chefs categories. Open to the public, tasters can try over 50 soups of all varieties and then vote on their favorite soups. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door! Bring your friends and your appetite to help in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis! Prizes, money and trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in both the Amateur and Professional Chefs categories. About Cystic Fibrosis
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a life-threatening genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. CF is passed down through the family and affects the cells that produce mucus, sweat and digestive juices. Normally, these secreted fluids are thin and slippery. But in CF, a defective gene causes the secreted liquids to be thick and slicky. These juices would normally act as a lubricant, but with Cystic Fibrosis the secretions plug up tubes, ducts and passageways, especially in the lungs and pancreas. In the 1950s, few children with CF lived to attend school. Now, with tremendous progress in understanding, research and treating CF, the length and quality of life have been vastly improved for those with the disease. Those living with CF need daily care but many people with CF can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and even beyond!
