West Angeles CDC Hosts 21st Annual Unity Awards

LOS ANGELES - Jan. 11, 2015 - PRLog -- West Angeles Community Development Center (WACDC) will host its 21^st Annual Unity Awards Gala on February 5, 2015 at the Beverly-Wilshire Hotel. 2015 Unity Awards honorees include Terry and Rebecca Crews, Tim Story and Bank of America.

Highlights on philanthropy efforts amongst today’s most influential community leaders will be presented by Bishop Charles E. Blake, Bishop of West Angeles Church of God In Christ (http://westa.org/) . The West Angeles Community Development Center (WACDC) provides community development programs that support South Los Angeles’ individuals and families. Programs include: Family and Emergency Services, Home Ownership & Investment, Manhood 101, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Law and Justice Center and Neighborhood Revitalization. WACDC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19jpKnlFmlg) provides a cornerstone of support to empower the community to buy homes, start savings, and create personal wealth. Dr. Tunua Thrash-Ntuk, Executive Director of the West Angeles Community Development Center, leads the charge to better the community at large.

Terry & Rebecca Crews are set to be honored for “Family of The Year” due to their active community involvement in the greater Los Angeles area. The Crews family has contributed countless time and effort to providing toys for families during the holiday season. A true definition of success, Terry Crews' life off-screen is as exciting and dynamic as his public persona. Crews is the caring husband of 25 years to wife Rebecca and proud father of five. Crews dedicates his free time to keeping physically fit-both in mind and body while also working with non-profit organization The Polaris Project (http://www.polarisproject.org/) , a leading organization in the global fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

Presenter, Imani Hakim, who played the daughter of Terry Crews on the hit show, Everybody Hates Chris is all grown up now.  Imani will take part in the presentation of “The Family of The Year” award presented to Terry & Rebecca Crews. This actress is best known as Tonya Rock the kid sister of Chris Rock on the CW Network hit sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. The now 21 year old actress has since starred as Olympic Gold Medalist Gabby Douglas in the Gabby Douglas Story.

Director Tim Story (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1103162/)  will receive “Man of The Year” in light of his advancements in film. Tim Story made his studio directorial debut in 2002 with the smash hit comedy Barbershop and has expanded his portfolio to include blockbusters such as Think Like A Man, Ride A Long and The Fantastic Four.

Bank of America will be honored as “Corporate Citizen of the Year”. Bank of America will be honored for their commitment to the local community of South Los Angeles. Accolades from 2014 include but not limited to: 10.7 Million New Credit extended to small businesses, 545.45 billion in credit extended globally, 10 year environmental goal of 50 billion to address global climate change and demands on natural resources and founded grants for non-profits.

Grammy Award winning Gospel artist KiKi Sheard (http://iamkierrasheard.com/)  will perform for the room of influential community leaders, community partners, tastemakers and honorees.
