American Paper & Twine Co. Announcing The Teacher of the Week - Week Eleven

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- American Paper & Twine Co., Titans Radio and Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers announced Calli Rollins, a kindergarten teacher from Cornerstone Preparatory School in Memphis, Tennessee, was selected as Teacher of the Week, for week eleven of the Tennessee Titans 2014 football season.

“This week’s winner is an example of the difference that exceptional teachers are making across the state of Tennessee and the country,” said Ruth Elliott, American Paper & Twine Co., Marketing Director. “Mrs. Rollins clearly has had an impact on the success and growth of her students.  We are thrilled to honor her as Teacher of the Week.”

“Calli came to Memphis to teach low income children in our state,” said Drew Sippel, Executive Director of Cornerstone Prep. “She chose to come work at our school, then named Lester School, which was the lowest performing school in the entire state of Tennessee. She has helped turn the school around.”

Mr. Sippel continued, “Last year, her students grew more than 95% of the children in the nation in math in a national test. Her students also grew by 1.5 grade levels in reading in just one year. Our school, now named Cornerstone Prep, was recognized for its improvement by Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who visited our school two weeks ago and told our students that the whole country was watching their performance.”

Each week during the Titans’ season, submissions are reviewed to find exceptional teachers. The winning teachers receive a $400 gift basket full of supplies for their classroom and two tickets to see a Tennessee Titans home game. A new winner is announced every Tennessee Titans game and at the end of the season a ‘Teacher of the Year’ is selected from the Teacher of the Week winners. This deserving teacher will receive an award, a gift basket of school supplies (worth approx. $800) and tickets to the December 28th game vs. the Indianapolis Colts.
