Lakewood College Breaks Many Challenges of Online Education

KILLEEN, Texas - Nov. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Many students often express the same concerns when it comes to studying online. A common fear for many is a lack of face to face interaction among instructors and fellow classmates. In addition to creating an individualized study schedule and finding that self-motivation, studying with an online college may seem too difficult. But at Lakewood College, there are ways to bridge the gap when it comes to providing the support students need to be successful in the online classroom.

1. Participation:  Lakewood College provides plenty of opportunities for students to participate in the classroom. Features like the discussion forum in each course allow students to reply to given questions and even propose new topics of discussion for fellow students.  Students also have the opportunity to view, post, or respond to the Facebook thread embedded into the student portal. Students can create study groups, get advice on personal or educational issues, as well as discuss pop culture and current issues all in one spot. Participation allows for active communication among students and instructors that creates a real sense of personal interaction.

2. Social Medias: Social Media platforms including Facebook, Linkedin, Google+, Twitter, and many others serve as the major connecting force for students at Lakewood College. It is the easiest way to get quick updates, receive tips, or simply share how you are doing in a certain program. Students and alumni can easily introduce themselves across all platforms as well as form new connections and friendships.

3.  Support System: The biggest thing that sets Lakewood College apart from other online schools is their ability to continually create support for students. From the time a student registers to well beyond graduation, Lakewood College staff members have the resources and commitment to make sure each student achieves their career goals. Every prospective student is greeted by a friendly admissions staff member available to answer all questions and walk them through the registration process. Once enrolled, students are assigned to an instructor with years of experience in their field. They are also assigned to a Success Coach who serves as an advisor providing resources on time management and study habits in addition to endless amounts of encouragement.

Lakewood College also has a Career Services Department to help students achieve employment. They first work with a Preparation Specialist to prepare a cover letter and resume. They undergo training in professional development, mock interviews, and networking and communication techniques. Students then work with a Job Placement Specialist who assists them in finding an externship that allows students to gain real career experience.
