Special Shades of Color Hosts First Annual “Canvas and Wine” Fundraiser
An online support organization for special needs families debuts in Long Beach, CA
“We desire to take Special Shades of Color to the next level with the type of online support system we can create. We just need the community and financial support to do it,” said DeJuana Golden, founder of SSC.
The event will showcase the artwork of several local artists in addition to the work of SL Thorsen, their featured artist. Thorsen has gained recognition for his great talent with original and commissioned works, including artwork for the Grammys. He has painted tribute pieces for Aretha Franklin, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand, Sir Paul McCartney, and Bruce Springsteen.
Golden added, “All of the artists have graciously donated their time, art, and talent to our organization and we are truly amazed at everyone who has linked arms with us to support our cause.”
With so many parents of special needs children going through an emotional rollercoaster, an easily accessible support system is a real need. Special Shades of Color looks forward to increasing their presence in the community and continuing their work with special needs parents, with the hope that parents will build a sense of community among one another.
