Urban Heat Academy and SEM Link Host Stepping towards Science Step Show and Science Fair

OAKLAND, Calif. - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- On Saturday, November 22, Urban Heat Academy (UHA) and Science, Engineering and Mathematics Link Inc. (SEM Link) will host the Stepping towards Science Step Show Competition and Science Fair.  The event will take place from 11:00am-5:30 pm at Roots International Academy located at 1390 66^th Avenue in Oakland. UHA and SEM Link are partnering to host this event  for youth and their families to  engage youth in hands on science, explore science careers, see the connect between science and stepping and expose youth to college culture. This family event will also include food and music.  Purchase advanced tickets at http://uhasteppingtowardsscience.eventbrite.com by November 21st, $15 for adults (18 and over) and $7 for youth (18 and under). Tickets will be sold at the door $20 for adults and $10 for youth.

The Science Fair, which takes place from 11:00 am-1:00 pm will engage attendees in hands-on science demonstrations and showcase real world applications of science. “We are excited to partner with Urban Heat Academy because of their mission to expose youth to college culture an one of the most important part of college culture is selecting your major” states Ms. Tokiwa T. Smith, SEM Link Founder and Executive Director “The event is another opportunity for us expose youth to science, show the connection between science and things that youth are interested in such as stepping and have them consider pursuing science careers.” In addition to the Science Festival, SEM Link during the step show will provide science activities during the step show and facts that connect science and stepping.

The Step Show Competition, which doors open at 2:00 pm, allows for the best elementary, middle and high school step teams throughout Northern California to compete on one stage! The step teams will battle it out on one stage for a chance to win $1,000.00 and automatically qualify to step in the Nationally Recognized "Best of The Bay" Step Show in February 2015, in Oakland CA. “Urban Heat Academy is about this event because it expands our purpose as an organization which is providing opportunities to expose youth to college culture, which stepping and step shows are a huge component of college culture” states Mr. Kino Carson, CEO of Urban Heat Academy. “With this show, we will also have the opportunity to expose youth to career opportunities they can consider pursuing in college by exposing them to science disciplines they can major in”.  Eligible step teams can represent schools, community organizations and churches. The teams show must include who they are, key principals they stand on and why science is important.  For more information about registering their teams, Step Coaches can download the registration packet from the Urban Heat Academy website www.urbanheatacademy.com. The deadline for team registration is November 8^th  2014.
