PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Sept. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Residents of Denver's prestigious Wash Park will be welcoming new neighbors to their 'hood, compliments of the newly completed My Block Washington Park apartments on the south side of Speer Boulevard along Washington.  The contemporary feel of this scrape-off, typical in a historic area experiencing revitalization, blends seamlessly among vintage edifices and modern duplexes. My Block, located on the outskirts of the neighborhood named for its expansive urban oasis, rises five stories above the tree-lined streets with 107, one and two bedroom units.

Shears Adkins Rockmore, 2013 Colorado Firm of the Year, was tasked with fashioning this luxury residential building.  Despite boasting elegant amenities such as a fifth floor sports club and rooftop Carrara marble pool, it's the dynamic mix of materials sheathing the sophisticated façade that truly makes this building a stand out in the area.  Absolute black granite, limestone, Parklex, and Rheinzink 1.0 mm pre weathered Graphite Gray Zinc compose the interior and exterior finishes of My Block.  "The selection of the zinc for the façade was based on the desire to have a high quality material applied to the central massing element of the building to which the contrasting masonry panels would be applied.  The zinc tiles provided a simple, yet refined texture that could stand on its own as a material but also serve as a background material for other less prominent materials," explains architect Dean Smith of SAR.  MetalTech-USA was selected to fabricate the 10,000 square feet of zinc flatlock panels.  MetalTech Project Manager Michael Love worked closely with the owner and installer to confirm and coordinate order quantities.  “The design was great and the zinc complements the other cladding materials well,” notes Love.

My Block Washington Park has not been certified by any green building standards; however, the zinc façade lends itself to a nod towards sustainability.  Durability is a key component of sustainability.  Depending on the exact product, geographic location, and local atmospheric conditions, including the amount of air pollution, zinc clad facades can last 200 to 300 years, much longer than almost any other building material (Evans, 2007).  With little to no maintenance required and a long service life, Denverites will be enjoying My Block’s unsullied façade for a lifetime.
