By: MetalTech-USA Shears Adkins Rockmore, 2013 Colorado Firm of the Year, was tasked with fashioning this luxury residential building. Despite boasting elegant amenities such as a fifth floor sports club and rooftop Carrara marble pool, it's the dynamic mix of materials sheathing the sophisticated façade that truly makes this building a stand out in the area. Absolute black granite, limestone, Parklex, and Rheinzink 1.0 mm pre weathered Graphite Gray Zinc compose the interior and exterior finishes of My Block. "The selection of the zinc for the façade was based on the desire to have a high quality material applied to the central massing element of the building to which the contrasting masonry panels would be applied. The zinc tiles provided a simple, yet refined texture that could stand on its own as a material but also serve as a background material for other less prominent materials," explains architect Dean Smith of SAR. MetalTech- My Block Washington Park has not been certified by any green building standards; however, the zinc façade lends itself to a nod towards sustainability. Durability is a key component of sustainability. Depending on the exact product, geographic location, and local atmospheric conditions, including the amount of air pollution, zinc clad facades can last 200 to 300 years, much longer than almost any other building material (Evans, 2007). With little to no maintenance required and a long service life, Denverites will be enjoying My Block’s unsullied façade for a lifetime.
