October weekend packed with events welcomes Hocking Hills visitors

LOGAN, Ohio - Sept. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- LOGAN, OH – Travelers who head to Ohio’s Hocking Hills this October 11 will find a weekend filled with special events that will ensure they enjoy the region’s gorgeous autumn scenery even more.  From colorful fall hikes to spooky, live performances, visitors will they experience an unforgettable weekend that includes:

Grandma Gatewood’s Fall Colors Hike (http://www.thehockinghills.org/Park_Event_Autum_Leaves.htm):  Visitors will enjoy the best of Hocking Hills’ fall beauty while hiking the historic Grandma Gatewood trail. This six-mile guided trek kicks off at 1 p.m. and takes travelers from the historic Old Man’s Cave to the rushing beauty of Cedar Falls. As hikers walk the trail, they will be awed by the display of vibrant autumn color, soaring cliffs, unusual rock formations and picture-perfect waterfalls.

Tombstone Travels: For the fifth consecutive year, costumed guides take those who dare through Logan’s Oak Grove Cemetery, the community’s very first burial ground. Ghost-seekers will hear spooky tales about those who are laid to rest at the inactive gravesite with performances along the way. Tours are just $10 and depart from the Logan Central Elementary parking lot at 3, 5 and 7 p.m.

Empty Bowls Fundraiser: (http://hapcap.org/volunteer) This annual United Way event serves as a fundraiser to help fight hunger in Hocking County. Travelers are invited to this happy hour event where they will enjoy wine, appetizers and dessert, in addition to their own locally crafted bowl. The event will also include a silent auction of uniquely crafted and celebrity-signed bowls, art and antiques. The fundraiser is held at the Bowen House Community Center for Arts and Education (http://www.bowenhouse.org/)from 4-6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door.

The Haunting of Hill House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Haunting_of_Hill_House): Travelers are invited to sit back and enjoy this haunting performance, described as "a chilling, mystifying study of mounting terror when a group of 'psychically receptive' people come together in Hill House, a brooding, mid-Victorian mansion known as a place of evil and ill-will." This full-length Logan Theater Group performance takes place at the Stagecoach Conference & Banquet Center at 8 p.m.

Connect Appalachia Broadband Fund Benefit Concert: (http://stuartsoperahouse.org/jonathan-edwards-mcguffey-lane-grassinine-p-356.html) The soothing sounds of Jonathan Edwards, country music from McGuffey Lane and down-to-earth tunes performed by Grassanine let travelers team up with Connect Ohio to raise money for the Connect Appalachia Broadband Initiative (CABI) Fund, which provides computers and technology to low-income Appalachian Ohio areas in need. The concert begins at 6 p.m. at the beautifully restored historic Stuart’s Opera House.
