Kent State Offers MBA Concentration in Entrepreneurship

By: Kent State University

KENT, Ohio - Sept. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Kent State University’s College of Business Administration is now offering a Master of Business Administration degree with a concentration in entrepreneurship.

“The entrepreneurship track is an interdisciplinary concentration which means it is valuable to, students regardless of their undergraduate program,” said Sergey Anokhin, interim director for the Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation. “We see a growing interest in entrepreneurship and students see the opportunity to create a meaningful career with an entrepreneurial background. Traditional jobs are not as secure as they once were so this provides students the freedom to create their own jobs and businesses.”

The new concentration allows students to specialize their degree with topics related to the various aspects of the entrepreneurial process and the knowledge and skills to identify, evaluate and act upon entrepreneurial opportunities.

Students will learn entrepreneurial thinking; including how to assess the market, market ideas, raise funds and create business plans and sustainable business models. These skills translate just as well in the corporate market; students learn  how to market a new product within organizations and alongside existing products and ideas.

“The unique thing about this new concentration is that it blends the creativity and specialization of a skill used in a particular industry with the traditional business curriculum of the MBA degree,” said Louise Ditchey, academic program director for the Graduate Programs.  “This way, for example, if you have interest in starting a business in the fashion or technology industries, there are courses available both of these areas and in business.”

Instead of focusing on one track of learning, students can take a blend of courses ranging from digital science to public administration to translation and more.

Students will take the core MBA classes and modify their concentration to fit their needs, taking 15 credit hours in their chosen electives.

“The decision to create an entrepreneurship concentration was a collaborative effort with Dr. Pamela Grimm, Department Chair of the Marketing and Entrepreneurship, with support from Dean Deborah F. Spake as well” Anokhin said.
