Mobile marketing is currently the hottest tool for marketers as more and more people, or potential buyers, now own a cell phone or other mobile device.  According to Mobi Ad News mobile shopping more often leads to direct transactions and sales, while PC (personal computer) shopping is used more for research.

As this type of marketing is relatively new, the information and data is constantly changing and being updated, so it is vital to stay current with the newest trends.  Below I will discuss some mobile marketing tips, tools and strategies to help you make the most of your mobile marketing campaign so you can increase views and sales in your particular opportunity.

Utilize push messaging through mobile marketing efforts like SMS messages.  This is a very powerful method for marketing on mobile devices.  Some ways businesses use this method is by pushing discount codes or coupons to customers who have opted in order to receive updates from your business (Groupon is a good example of this).  This increases the value of your mobile marketing and increases the likelihood customers will find value in all the information you provide.

Make sure your website is mobile friendly.  Take a look at your website on a mobile device and see if there is any difference in the way it looks on your computer.  If you don’t like what you see, look at your content management system to see if it offers a mobile plugin.  You can also talk to a local digital advertising agency to build a solution for you.  Either way, it is important to make your site looks professional and is engaging on mobile devices.

When developing mobile ads, make sure they are compatible on all platforms, cellular devices and more.  Your business must stay accessible to as many mobile users as possible if you want to have success.  By ensuring compatibility on all platforms, you maximize your exposure and your business’ ability to reach more customers via the devices they use the most.

Try to limit the number and length of messages you send to people.  In order to maintain a high level of satisfaction with your customers this is absolutely imperative.  Do not send unreasonable amounts of text messages to personal phones, people will block you and may even report your messages as spam.

Add QR codes every time you print material and distribute it for advertising purposes.  Printable QR codes are in high demand, so put your code on anything you possibly can, even on postcards, fliers, or newspapers. The more people you have that see your code, the more likely you are to gain new customers from the display.

Even if someone subscribes to your messages, they may still choose to unsubscribe at some point for whatever reasons.  Knowing this you want to make it easy for people to unsubscribe from your list.

Sending out text messages in mobile marketing is a great idea, but you want to make sure that these messages are not commercial in nature.  One way to avoid this situation is to know your market.  By knowing your market you can offer your customers value and give them what they want.

In addition to knowing your market, you want to personalize your messages.  When you are emailing your mobile marketing messages, you want to make sure that you have the customer’s first name, and use it.  When a message feels personal, people will probably open it and read the message.

Before sending messages, make sure to check the formatting.  In mobile marketing messages do not use text abbreviations.  While this may be acceptable for person to person communication, it appears unprofessional coming from a business.  You want to also avoid using all caps in your messages, which can give your consumers the feeling you are yelling at them.

When developing your mobile marketing campaign conduct a usability test prior to actually launching your mobile ad to make sure everything is running smoothly.  Send the ad in a small test circle to include yourself and trusted friends or family.  Ask for honest feedback and ask yourself if you would be persuaded by the content.
