ATLANTA - April 16, 2014 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, April 16, 2014 – Aubrey Daniels International (ADI), a leading workplace consultancy, today announced the release of the fifth edition of Performance Management: Changing Behavior That Drives Organizational Effectiveness.

Originally published in 1982 and widely embraced by business and academia, the book is the definitive guide toa commonly misunderstood topic: how to apply the laws of behavior to improve workplace results more efficiently and effectively. Performance Management Publications, a subsidiary of ADI, is releasing the updated, expanded edition.

The co-authors are ADI founder Aubrey Daniels, Ph.D., who coined the term “performance management” and has written six management best-sellers, and Jon Bailey, Ph.D., director of the Applied Behavior Analysis master’s program in psychology at Florida State University and founder of the Florida Association for Behavior Analysis.

Performance Management is the only book of its kind that explains the science of behavior and provides proven research and examples for applying its principles to bring about workplace outcomes that organizations are challenged with achieving,” Daniels said. “Basically, performance management is a way of getting people to do what you want them to do and to like doing it – with an emphasis on the latter. The need for behavior-based performance management is greater now than ever as organizations struggle with how to fully engage employees, enhance work cultures, foster innovation and accelerate results.

“Managers will benefit by using the book as a desktop reference to improve employee performance,” Daniels continued. “We have included hundreds of company examples in this new edition that will be a blueprint for improvement. In turn, students and teachers will experience an in-depth, real-world perspective of performance management that students can carry with them throughout their careers.”

The new edition of Performance Management has been significantly updated and expanded since the last edition, released in 2004, based on reader feedback and new research findings and resources.

Readers will learn about effective systems and processes and how to use positive reinforcement to:

·         Engage employees to perform their best every day (not through Employee of the Month programs)

·         Build positive cultures (which start with relationships)

·         Spark innovation (which everyone harbors)

·         Accommodate the changing role of leaders (who are increasingly becoming mentors)

·         Improve performance appraisal (with ongoing systems)

·         Manage multigenerational workforces (using generation-specific reinforcers)

The new edition of Performance Management adds:

·         References to some 50 new research articles and papers, with many accessible via QR codes

·         Information on how hundreds of organizations have boosted performance by applying the laws of behavior

·         A new chapter on behavior-based safety – an alternative to tracking lagging indicators

·         A new section on complex and controversial issues in the workplace

With more than 500,000 copies in print, Performance Management has been used by about 750,000 students in 100 colleges and universities, as well as adopted by thousands of businesses and other organizations. More than 9,000 professionals have taken the related ADI course on “Applications of Performance Management Technology,” for which this book is the “bible.”

Performance Management is one of the most powerful and important books ever written for making businesses and the people in them work better,” said Gary Austin, CEO of OneCare, LLC, who applied lessons from the book and the course as an ADI client and whose company now is partnering with ADI. “I learned that there really are laws of behavior and that behavior can be changed. How you change behavior is not intuitive or common sense; it is a science, and when you apply the laws of behavior correctly, they work.”
