Outstanding New Publications from Noteworthy Sheet Music

Noteworthy Sheet Music offers several new publications for alto flute.  First is a transcription of the Berceuse by Gabriel Fauré for alto flute and piano.  Fauré composed his Berceuse (Op. 16) for violin (or cello) and piano in 1878-1879, and it remains one of his most beloved and popular works to this day.  The piece is simple but beautiful—short, with a quiet sweet melody that appeals to both performers and audiences alike.  Over the years the Berceuse has been transcribed for many other instruments; arrangements have been created for solo piano, viola, flute, alto saxophone, flute and harp, and string quartet, in addition to the composer’s own arrangement for violin and orchestra.  Now there is also a version for alto flute, which is perhaps the perfect instrument choice for this perfect lullaby composed by Fauré.

The viola part from Sonata, Op.22 by Marion Bauer has also been transcribed for alto flute and recently published by Noteworthy Sheet Music.  Marion Bauer was an extraordinary composer, editor, teacher, writer, and supportive colleague whose works deserve more attention by contemporary performing musicians.   Peter H.
