Follow on Google News | Summitt and Covenant House Help to Keep Toronto Youth Warm This WinterBy: Covenant House Toronto “This winter’s extremely cold weather has come as a shock to many, mostly because of its duration,” says Gerry Haggarty, CEO of Summitt. “We are happy to lend a hand to Covenant House in their endeavor to help protect and change the lives of Toronto youth.” When the weather is cold, desperate kids seek refuge from the extreme temperatures and fear of spending yet another night on the street alone in the cold. In Toronto, it is estimated that there are at least 10,000 youth who are homeless at one point in any given year and anywhere from 1,500 to 2,000 on a given night. Covenant House provides a welcoming environment so kids can take their first steps towards a safe and independent future. “We are very grateful for Summitt’s help, particularly during this extreme cold weather as we can have as many as 122 young people to care for every night,” says Christine Foisy-Monk, Covenant House Associate Director of Development. “The help of companies like Summitt enables us to ensure we can provide a safe, warm place for these kids.” Summitt feels privileged to have been able to lend a hand to Covenant House during this cold winter season. It is hoped that this donation will be the start of an ongoing relationship for years to come.
