Not Even Multiple Sclerosis Can Keep This Working Mother From Running Her Own Business

Dec. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- DerBayz Collectables has always been a dream of mine.  The name DerBayz is very significant to us, as it is a merging of two families.  My youngest daughter's last name is Durr and my husband's last name is Boese (pronounced Bayze).  When we first started dating all of my friends told me that when I opened my business I should call it DerBayz because it is a great name and it would merge the two families.  I guess it really has.  This truly is a family business.  My husband and two kids are all helping to make this store a success.  My 16 year old daughter takes most of pictures for the store as practice for her photography career, my 9 year old daughter helps to clean and inventory the items, my husband helps me restore some of the more injured or neglected items and we all get in the car on Saturday or Sunday (sometimes both) and go searching for new hidden treasures.  It is great family time.

So why vintage collectables?  Well in 1996 I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and I spent all of my time at first, other than work, at home scared to go out into public.  eBay was a wonderful place for me back then and I started a collection of antique and/or vintage books.  One day I was searching Craigslist and I came across a seller who had a book that I had been searching for, for years “The Adventures of Uncle Wiggly Longears” (my grandmother had read this book to be as a child and I wanted to copy so I could read it to my children).  This seller refused to ship because it was fragile and he did not want to take the risk of shipping it.  My love of this book gave me the courage and strength to overcome my fear and go out into public.  That’s when I found a whole new world for collectables.  It wasn’t only books that I found, it was silver, bells, figurines, crystal and researching / learning the story behind each item was so gratifying.  But like most things, as we get older, these items start collecting dust.  Children and work take precedence and life gets away from us.  That is when the idea of opening a store telling the items story came to me, I can still enjoy finding and restore the beauty inside, then I can find them a home where they will be loved and appreciated.

There is a story behind every item, you just have to search and find it.  Find your forgotten treasures at http://www.derbayz.com.
