Didwana is a town which lies in the Nagaur district of Rajasthan in India. The Great Indian Desert, straddling what is currently the southern 50% of the India-Pakistan outskirt, supplied critical archaeological materials in the late twentieth century. The Pre-historic people of India were making two types of lithic assemblages in two separate areas i. e.  Sub-Himalayan India and Peninsular India during the Lower Paleolithic and these two different cultural traditions are known as Soanian and Acheulian respectively. Hand axes and cleavers discovered at Didwana, Rajasthan; where as the Shiwalik Range, yield assemblages somewhat composed of pebble or cobble tools without any hand axes or cleavers.

Acheulian tools have been found from pre-historic times and even evidence of Home Erectus has been mentioned which could be around 8 lakh years before present. This has been a breakthrough revelation in terms of Archaeological findings and even the presence of palaeo channels of ancient rivers and tributaries (river Drishadvati; tributary of mighty river Saraswati) are being found. They have given a detailed description of all these things and by reading it we as readers can easily visualize and relate to the content. It definitely brings us much closer to our history and the culture mixed with it. Informations about these pre historic findings help us to know a lot about our origin and more so it helps in comparing our growth since the early civilizations.

Dr. Arun Vyas is a highly educated individual having backgrounds from Geology, and a Ph.D. in Science. He is a Lecturer in College education and has put more than 15 years in teaching and research. In addition to the writing on Geological, Pre-history, Environmental and Groundwater conservation issues; Dr. Vyas has published many research papers in national and international journals of repute.
