Grantham University Announces New Concentrations for Multidisciplinary Studies Program

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Dec. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- Grantham University announced that it has added seven new specialized concentrations to its bachelor of science in multidisciplinary studies. The concentrations provide students majoring in multidisciplinary studies with the opportunity to increase their knowledge and depth in a particular focus area: human resource management, criminal justice, health systems management, accounting, business administration, business management and computer science.

“The new program concentrations within multidisciplinary studies give students more choice and control over their education,” said Dr. Cheryl Hayek, chief academic officer at Grantham University. “An added benefit is students have the opportunity to tailor a degree to their career needs.”

A part of the College of Arts and Sciences (http://www.grantham.edu/colleges-and-schools/college-of-arts-and-sciences/), the University’s multidisciplinary studies program is designed with a variety of open electives, enabling students to personalize their degree program and transfer in previous college credit. Open electives is an important part of this degree, and popular with adult students who typically have a large number of available transfer credits due to attendance at multiple universities before degree completion.

Launching simultaneously with the new program concentrations is Grantham Foundations. Grantham Foundations provides students with greater flexibility and more choice in course selection during their first six terms.

Flexibility and choice can only be successful if there is substantial support within the students’ first six terms.  The Foundations program was carefully designed with both built-in academic support in early courses as well as a well thought-out selection of which courses would be best for students to most successfully progress from term to term.  This course design and architectural flow of courses swaddle the students in support, part of the University’s Swaddling Support Services™ approach, through their first six terms at Grantham, better positioning them to persist towards their degree.

“Research demonstrates that students who drop out tend to do so during the first year,” says Dr. Hayek. “By creating an intense network of both academic and emotional support through student advising, we are giving our students the foundation they need to succeed.”
