LENEXA, Kan. - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- For the second year in a row, Grantham University has awarded the Eugene “Gene” Jewett Memorial Scholarship (http://www.grantham.edu/scholarships/eugene-gene-jewett-memorial-scholarship/) to a student in the University’s Mark Skousen School of Business. This year’s recipient is James Hatfield of Topeka, Kan. Hatfield works as an assistant election official for the Shawnee County election office and is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

The Eugene “Gene” Jewett Memorial Scholarship was established in 2013 to honor the late thought leader, early advocate of online education, and GEC board member. The scholarship, valued up to $37,000, covers the cost of tuition, textbooks, software and associated fees for the completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree in Grantham’s Mark Skousen School of Business.

“Throughout his career, Mr. Jewett preached the benefits on online education to all who would listen. He witnessed its power in helping students who might be unable to pursue their educational dreams otherwise do so and succeed,” said Steve Waldron, Grantham’s chief operating officer. “Through Mr. Jewett’s passion, schools like Grantham have been able to change countless lives, which is why we are proud to honor his memory with this annual scholarship.”

Grantham University offers a number of scholarships for active duty, reserve, guard, veterans and military family members as well as scholarships for first responders. To learn more about these scholarship opportunities visit: http://www.grantham.edu/scholarships/.
