The 14th Annual Dick Meighan Memorial Run, a Bergen County Thanksgiving tradition, will be held on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013 at the Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River, New Jersey.The run was inaugurated after the September 11, 1999 death of Upper Saddle River resident Dick Meighan who was a long time resident and active participant in community life. He was a coach to hundreds in a variety of sports which spanned the ages and interests of his four children. Proceeds from the event continue to benefit the local community, including D.A.R.E., the SRV Rescue Squad, Ambulance Corps and Fire Department, USR Education Foundation, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, USR Youth Triathlon, Shelter Our Sisters, Oasis, Children's Therapy Center, The Rose Foundation of Haiti, and the "Extra Mile" Scholarship Fund. The Garden Club of Harrington Park will hold a special "Make-It & Take-It" Thanksgiving Workshop On Sunday, November 24,  2013 at 2:00 pm, in the Harrington Park Library, 10 Herring Street in Harrington Park, New Jersey. Make your own one-of-a-kind centerpiece to grace your Thanksgiving table or to give as a hostess gift. This timely workshop will be conducted by Gerri Gibney, President of the Garden Club of Harrington Park. Gerri has led workshops for numerous groups including the St. Paul's Women's Club, the Hasbrouck Heights Garden Club, and annually at the Garden Club of Harrington Park's Thanksgiving and December Holiday workshops, creating beautiful, unique arrangements and decorations. Gerri is an avid gardener, an antique dealer, founder and president of both The Harrington Park Garden Club and the Harrington Park Historical Society, and writes a weekly column on gardening for a local newspaper. The Saddle Brook, NJ Smith School Annual Holiday Shopping Night will be held on Friday, November 15, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.This holiday shopping extravaganza will feature over 35 vendors offering a wide variety of unique products for holiday gift giving.The Helen I. NJBG will sponsor two hands-on wreath making workshops at the New Jersey State Botanical Garden Carriage House Visitor Center in Ringwood, NJ (Passaic County), on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. The workshops are an annual tradition at NJBG.In these two workshops you’ll learn how to assemble and decorate holiday wreaths to grace your home using a variety of fresh and dried plant materials. You’ll make two wreaths, one to take home with you and one for use at NJBG’s Holiday Open House.
