Santa Fe Gallery to Recreate 20th Century Parisian Art Salon

Matthews Gallery on Canyon Road launches SALON 669 event series

SANTA FE, N.M. - Oct. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Paris was the center of the art world in the early 20th century, when American art collector Gertrude Stein would throw Saturday night gatherings for friends like Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso in her living room-turned-gallery. For two weekends in October, the Matthews Gallery will revive the crackling energy of a Parisian salon right here in 21st century Santa Fe at new event series SALON 669 (http://thematthewsgallery.com/Exhibit_Detail.cfm?ShowsID=50). Visitors will have the chance to attend art discussions in a re-creation of a Parisian sitting room and browse two exhibitions, NEW HORIZONS: Focus on Landscapes (http://thematthewsgallery.com/Exhibit_Detail.cfm?ShowsID=51) from October 18-27 and ART ON PAPER: Fine Art Prints (http://thematthewsgallery.com/Exhibit_Detail.cfm?ShowsID=52) from October 25-27.

“Santa Fe is one of the nation’s art meccas, so I’ve often asked myself, ‘Where’s the salon?’” says gallery owner Lawrence Matthews. “This fall we’re bringing the City of Lights to the City Different, and everyone’s invited.” SALON 669 is part of the Santa Fe Gallery Association’s Art Matters, an annual celebration featuring multiple educational events and exhibitions throughout the local art community that runs October 18-20 and 25-27.
