| 5 Strategies for Staying Fit During the Holidays That Actually WorkDon’t Give Up On Your Commitments Even If You Slip - You Can do It
By: Groff-Hinman Matthew Solomon, Spectrum Athletic Clubs spokesman with an extensive background in fitness, offers these 5 strategies for maintaining your diet and exercise goals during the hectic holiday season: 1. PLAN YOUR MEALS –Portion control is key. Use salad plates instead of dinner plates at buffet style gatherings. Only return for a small amount of second helpings 20 minutes or more after your initial servings. This will allow for digestion and give your brain enough time to process your level of hunger. 2. STAY HYDRATED – Drink fluids with zero or low calories – water is best -- and stay away from caffeine. Many people drink alcohol or eat in excess but don't do a very good job of staying hydrated. Water helps keep everything in balance and washes excess waste products out of the body. 3. DON’T STOP EXERCISING – Even if you are traveling and don’t have access to a fitness club, do sit-ups, pushups, isometric exercises (i.e., pushing against hard surfaces to create muscle tension), jog, run, etc. 4. GET PLENTY OF SLEEP – Much of the damage you do everyday is repaired at night. If you overdo it, make sure you get a good night’s sleep. 5. FORGIVE YOURSELF – Too many people throw in the towel if they stray from their diets or exercise routines. Give yourself a break and concentrate on getting back on track. On the heels of a multi-million dollar renovation and improvement campaign, Spectrum Athletic Clubs boast spacious, modern facilities, highly trained staff, the latest in fitness equipment, high-end amenities and a full range of fitness programming.
