Federal law requires all individuals and families that are able to afford insurance to obtain health insurance coverage between January 1, 2014 and March 31, 2014, or else pay a penalty on their tax return. All businesses with more than 50 full time equivalent employees must offer health insurance to full-time employees beginning in 2015, or else pay a shared responsibility payment.
