YOU Be the Judge at This Year’s Virginia Wine Festival

The Commonwealth’s premiere wine fest will feature private food and wine tastings and a “You Be the Judge” tent on September 14th and 15th

WASHINGTON - Sept. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Guests are given the opportunity to “Be the Judge” at the 38th Annual Virginia Wine Festival (http://www.virginiawinefest.com/) on September 14th and 15th at Great Meadow Event Center in The Plains, Virginia. In addition to free wine tastings, live music, local vendors and educational viticulture seminars, this year’s festival-goers will have a variety of private food and wine pairings to choose from and admission to the “You Be the Judge” tent: a tasting tent that teaches guests how to judge select Virginia wines by varietal, not just in a wine competition.

For those who wonder exactly how Virginia wines get their “score,” the “You Be the Judge” tasting tent will inform attendees how to evaluate the various elements of each wine, including Appearance, Aroma, Attack, Mid-Palate and Finish. Virginia-wine veteran Neil Williamson, a UC Davis Wine Executive Program alumnus, will introduce each wine. On average, a new wine will be poured in the tasting tent every eight minutes and a new varietal every twenty-five. Wineries participating in the tasting tent include Barboursville Vineyards, Democracy Vineyards and Horton Vineyards. Tickets for the “You Be the Judge” tasting tent can be purchased here (http://www.virginiawinefest.com/tickets/).

Private food and wine pairings will also be offered at the Virginia Wine Festival, with a gourmet menu provided by Grapevine Greek and Italian Restaurant (http://www.richmondgrapevine.com). Dining options include tiropita, Greek salad, baked manicotti and sautéed shrimp and scallops topped with black olives, marinara sauce and baked with feta cheese served over spaghetti. Tickets for the private food and wine pairing tent can be purchased here (http://www.virginiawinefest.com/tickets/).
