FORT WORTH, TEXAS– Standing 8 Promotions’
Professional boxers James DeHerrera (of Fort Worth), Tony Lopez (of Fort Worth), Mike Tufariello (of Dallas), and Hector Vazquez (of Fort Worth) will reach out to over 1500 DFW community members to give hope and direction to underprivileged children and youth in Fort Worth at the Fort Worth Metro Summer Trilogy event on August 10, 2013 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Carter Park Elementary School.
The professional boxing outreach is part of the ongoing partnership between Texas’
largest boxing promotion company, Standing 8 Promotions, and Fort Worth Metro, an inner city non-profit organization committed to serving the children and families of the poverty-stricken and crime-ridden areas in the DFW Metroplex. Summer Trilogy is a two day outreach fair hosted by Fort Worth Metro as part of their commitment.
The Standing 8 Promotions pro boxing tent will be one of the hundreds of free attractions at Summer Trilogy. Other attractions will include live music and entertainment, bounce houses and giveaways, including free clothing, schools supplies, and two flat screen TVs. The second day of the outreach will take place the next day at Cavile Housing Projects in Fort Worth.
The professional boxers will be taking time from training for their upcoming Bud Light Pro Fight on August 24th at Cowboys Dancehall in Arlington (
http://www.standing8promotions.com/) to share personal stories of struggles and victories with the over 1500 children and adults expected to attend the event. In full boxing gear, the fighters will also demonstrate through interactive games and sparring matches how boxing and sports in general are a great alternative to negative life choices like drugs, violence, and crime. DeHerrera, Lopez, Tufariello and Vazquez will also sign autographs and pose for photos with Summer Trilogy attendees.
“Standing 8 wanted to give something back to the community so we looked for a charity that was a good match for us. Many of our boxers came from difficult upbringings, but they learned to channel their disappointments in life into victories and successes in boxing, so we thought Fort Metro was a perfect fit. Our boxers can get out there and tell kids they can overcome and that sports are a healthy alternative to gang violence. Professional boxers also provide real life examples for DFW youth of the famous Rocky Balboa quote: ‘Life's not about how hard of a hit you can give... it's about how many you can take, and still keep moving forward,’” said Dustin Haney, owner of Standing 8 Promotions.
“The relationship with Fort Worth metro is great for our boxers too. We don’t only want to promote boxers, we want to help instill integrity, discipline, great showmanship and a concern for others into young athletes,”
added Haney.
In addition to participating In Fort Worth Metro outreach projects, Standing 8 Promotions also donates one dollar of every ticket sale to help Fort Worth Metro’
s inner city outreach projects. So boxing fans can see Lopez, Vazquez, DeHerrera, Tufariello box at the upcoming Bud Light Pro Fight Series on August 24th at 5:30 p.m. at Cowboys Dancehall in Arlington (http://www.standing8promotions.com/)
and donate to Fort Worth Metro’
s inner city outreach efforts at the same time.
